SIPO built a patent statistics publishing mechanis

The State Intellectual Property Office (SIPO) built a mechanism to publish patent statistics concerning strategic emerging industries after three years’ effort. According to industry insiders, the patent statistics publishing mechanism, as a key part of the statistical monitoring system governing strategic emerging industries, would help innovators fully grasp the development trend of the field in regard and provide reference for decision-making sectors to formulate policies supporting and guiding a rapid and healthy industry development.

The SIPO conducted controlled trials upon Strategic Emerging Industry Classification (formulated by the Nation Bureau of Statistics) virus International Patent Classification (IPC), which helped bringing a comparison table reflecting the relevance between strategic emerging industry classification and IPC. The SIPO subsequently performed a statistical analysis on all invention patent applications and grants filed by or issued to strategic emerging industries. The effort saw an outcome of a Patent Statistics Report on Strategic Emerging Industry, which studied in detail the domestic and foreign patent applications and grants in China, including the overall patent growth and industry development. 

The SIPO also organized relevant organizations to study the development trend of patented technology in countries and regions where the key areas of strategic emerging industries proved to be most competitive as well as the utilization of patents in China. The study basically covered all the key areas of strategic emerging industries and focused on the patent application distribution and development trend in China, the United States, Europe and Japan, trying to reveal how to make a breakthrough in the process of global industrial structural adjustment. The SIPO compiled the results into a book entitled “A Study on Patented Technology Trends in Strategic Emerging Industry”.
